It's Christmas time and we are sending gifts to Lillian's teachers at school. A little thank you for everything they do.

I decided to alter some Maya Road tins. Here are the finished projects.

Of course each tin was filled with goodies.

Lillian spent a day with me on Thanksgiving break and made the gift bags for each teacher also.

Handmade Shaker Ornament

My plan is to show the ornaments Lillian has been making every 5 days. However, this one was so much fun I took pictures to show a tutorial.

Think Snow Shaker Box.

We started with the plastic case that was left after opening some brads. I used the chipboard piece to measure for the cardstock she will need.

After I cut the cardstock. Lillian stamped a snowman border and Think Snow saying with black ink.

Then she colored in the image with her favorite colors.

When she was finished with that step, she set it aside for later. I showed her how to apply the alcohol inks without using a handle.

She used them to add color to the back and side panels.

On a second piece of cardstock she wrote her name, the year, and the age she is now. (Her idea)

Next she used a glue stick to attach the cardstock pieces to the front and back of the chipboard piece that came in the case.

She used the back of a stamp to smooth the paper out, after she attached it. (Again, her idea)

Before she lined the case with her cardstock, she added some chalk for the snow. She used a q-tip to apply it in different colors.

Then she used a glitter pen to draw attention to the snowmen.

Once that was done, she added a small amount of ivory Flower Soft to the inset in the plastic container.

She laid the cardstock piece on top of that and I applied clear glue around the edges and closed the lid. I helped with this part because we didn't want the Flower Soft to come around to the back side of the ornament. (Liili took this picture for me.)

Handmade Ornaments: Days 1-5

This year I thought it would be fun to create an ornament a night with Lilli for the 25 days until Christmas. She loves to scrapbook, craft and paint. I like to find things that encourage her creativity. I decided to create a small mini album to keep track of the fun we are having. Below you can see the first few pages in the album. It is 4x6 size and made by SEI.

Hanging decorated clipboard class

Today I worked on the hanging decorated clipboard for the class coming up soon.

I attached the paper from the Pink Paislee Amber Road collection, inked the edges at the top of the clipboard with distress ink, then got out the Distress Embossing Powder for the edges.

It gave it a sort of gritty look, but doesn't flake off.

Here is a close up of the clip with alcohol ink. I used a couple of different colors.

I used pieces of rhinestone flourishes and ribbons then attached the wooden butterfly from KaiserKraft.

Magic Mesh used with the Distress Ink, adds a textured look.

In the class, we'll be doing this much earlier in the process.

On the butterfly I used embossing powders, Stickles, rhinestones, alcohol inks and the Sakura glitter pen

Thanksgiving 2 page layout

I've been wanting to use the Pink Paislee Amber Road line for a while, but when I saw

the beautiful fall layout Deanna created and showed on her blog,

I was inspired to use it right now. Couldn't wait any longer.

First I used some Distress Crackle Paint Black Soot to add bark to the Maya Road chipboard tree. Then decided it was too dark for the look I was going for and softened it with coffee colored Shimmerz, later I also added some Distress Stickles and a little Flower Soft for a touch of color.

I cut up one sheet of the charcoal background paper and layered it on 2 sheets of Kraft Bazzill cardstock to ground my collection of photos.

Then, started arranging the photos and accent papers.

I used rub-ons for my title "Thanksgiving" and black chipboard numbers.

Along with strips of paper, I added velvet ribbons for dimension - love those colors together.

I chose my favorite photo from the collection to be set aside on it's own to draw attention to it, then added the accents and the rest of the layout title. I inked the tops of the corregated letters to really make it show up.

I popped the letters out of the graphic 45 diecut sheet for the main, accented photo.

Webster's Pages Christmas page layout

As soon as I saw this Mistletoe Kisses paper, I remembered this photo and and just what to journal.

I took two sheets of the same paper and used one for the background. I cut "Kisses" off the bottom of the other piece and trimmed the side off to make a square, then inked the edges to coordinate with the background side that already looked "inked".

I matted the title with dark red glitter paper to make it stand out from the background.

Stamped lines on the paper to include my journaling.

Then added a coordinating accent with the rhinestone flourishes.

I have been snipping off of one sheet of these for a long time.

Finally, I colored in the letters with some blue Shimmerz to help them show up a little better.

Christmas page layout

I love this photo of my niece and have been wanting to add it to my scrapbook for a while

First I cut the trees out of the paper. All straight edges, so I used the Fiskars fingertip craft knife.

I wanted to use this paper as a mat for my accent, but didn't have enough, so I just cut a few strips and taped them together. I have used this trick before and liked the look.

I used the to the Tim Holtz paper distresser to scuff up the edges.

Then highlighted a couple of paper edges with a little white paint.

I added a little sparkle to the finished page with some Stickles and rhinestones.

Last, I dipped a scrap of cardstock in white paint and added lines for my journaling.

Flower Soft Card

I was having some fun creating a card with flower soft products. Here are some steps to show how easy it is to work with.

I started by spreading the glue on the end of my wire.

Then held the wire over my Flower Soft container and sprinkled it on until I had the look I wanted. ( I know these are not the same color flower wires I used on my card, but I was having so much fun I created wires with every color I had out.)

Then I stuck the wire in a piece of styrofoam and let it dry for about 20 minutes.

I wanted it to look like it was a potted plant. So after I cut the flower pot out, I wrapped it around the glue bottle to give it a curved shape. Then put a couple of drops of glue on the edges and attached it to my paper. I let it dry for a couple of minutes then added my flower wires.

To do that I simply cut the wire stems to the length I needed, then put a drop on glue on the end and tucked it inside the flower pot. After they were dry I was able to bend the wires and get the look I wanted.

Try it out and see how fun and easy it can be.

Flurries of Fun

Tonight was the Downtown Open House "Flurries of Fun". Along with sales, refreshments & a door prize, we were also offering a free Christmas card make-n-take.

It was fun to see everyone out this evening. I wish I could have visited some of the other participating stores.

At the end of the evening, Little Lil drew the winner of the door prize.

Playing with paint and ink

Create your own custom accents with paint, ink and embossing folders

I started with my title piece from the My Mind's Eye page kit (I wasn't going to use the title "Big Attitude" for this layout but I still wanted to use the shape) and ran it through the Sizzix Big Shot in a Cuttlebug embossing folder.

Then I painted it with white paint and wiped away the excess. I did this twice, using my heat gun to dry the paint in between each application.

After the second coat was dry I rubbed the distress ink pad across the whole piece. It is a slow drying ink, so I used a paper towel to spread it around and even it out giving a two tone look. Then dried it with my heat gun.

After that I lightly dry brushed white paint across the top. Smoothed out only the edges with my paper towel. Then dried it with my heat gun. A more patient person might not need the heat gun.

I used Faded Jeans Distress Ink to blend around the edges to make them darker. Then attached it to the page.

I created this layout for my November kit of the month using the new custom accent. More November page kit layout samples will be posted in the next day or two.As you can see, I kept playing with paint through the rest of the layout too. It was a fun way to spend the afternoon.

Creating with Rub-ons

Creating with rub-ons can be a lot of fun. You can use them on so many things. It is simply transfering the image to another item. On this layout I used them on paper, buttons, and plastic.

Rub-ons can also used on things like: jars, metal tins, glass bottles, picture frames, ribbon, pictures, etc.

It is important to remember that some companies make their rub-ons with a little bit of sticky substance on the back to hold it in place on your project, so be sure to cut the image you want away from the rest of them before transfering.

After I cut out the image I wanted, I removed the back lining, placed it on my plastic piece and used a wood stick to rub across the image.

Notice in the photo below, everywhere I have already rubbed, is a lighter color. That is how I know the transfer is working.

After I transfered the house image to my plastic piece I flipped it over so the rub-on was on the back side of the plastic. Then I added some ribbon and attached it to my layout.

Next I added rub-ons to some buttons. On the first button I added a small heart. .

On the other 2 buttons for my layout I covered the whole button with a print and cut away the image that hung over the edge.

These tickets were Maya Road rub-ons. First I distressed kraft Cardstock with vintage photo distress ink, then transfered my rubons and cut out the tickets to make them stand out on my page.

The title is also rub-on letters.

Easy Christmas Cards

Today was the Christmas Card workshop where participants make 4 of each of the following cards. I was supposed to get photos of the class in actions. Wouldn't you know that I don't have my camera with me today. Thank goodness for the scanner to include photos of the cards.

We used red flocked paper, stamped Merry Christmas with Fired Brick Distress Ink and used a glitter pen on the star over the i.
This one has a flourish cut out with the Cricut from Bazzill Bling paper for some extra shimmer.
This gorgeous flocked paper from Creative Imaginations went fast, as soon as the class was over, we sold out of the rest of it.

This bottom photo got a little washed out in the scan, but you still get the main idea.

We used Christmas Red Stickles for the berries

Using paper that is already flocked, glittered, embossed, etc. saves some steps when you need to create quick cards.

ScrapPink 2009

We joined in ScrapPink with Scrapbooks Etc. to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation. We held our crop October 10, 2009. Here are some pictures from another camera.

Look at all the pink at this table. It looks great ladies.

I love the handmade decorations at this table. I think next year I will use some of these ideas for our window display. Very creative. We even had our very own Pink Scrap Princess hand out gifts to everyone. (Notice the pink wagon she pulled the items from.) After she was done with all the gifts, Lillian helped draw names for some of our hourly prizes. Then she helped at the raffle table. We had several wonderful donations from sponsors in Vincennes. You can see a list of all our sponsors here. She had a great time drawing tickets and passing out all the prizes.Thank you Blossom B. for helping at The Scrapbook Tree booth.

Easy embossed and glittered Halloween card

I made this easy card this morning, most of my cards include no coloring in of the stamped images. I'm just not that patient. But, I do like shiny things :) So, it was fun to work with the glitter, rhinestones, glazed cardstock, and glitter pen

File Folder Mini Album

Here is a cute file folder mini album. It doesn't take long to make. Below I listed the step by step instructions.

Start with patterned paper of your choice. I used Enchanting from Pink Paislee.

You will also need a tape runner, circle punch, ruler, bone folder and a file folder. Open the folder and lay it flat on the table.Fold it from the bottom up, as shown in the picture below.

Then unfold and lay flat. Take the side with the tab and fold it to the middle. The tab should overlap the center fold, the rest should line up. (I have added the highlighted marks to show the example better. Do not draw on your folder.)
Next you will unfold that piece and fold the other side across to the middle. Line the edge up on the center fold.

Unfold, flip to back side and lay flat. With the tab in the top left corner, cut out the second rectangle in the bottom row. Set that piece aside for later.

Next, use your circle punch to make a half circle in the 3rd box on the top row. Add adhesive where all the yellow highlighted lines are, then fold up the bottom row. This will allow pockets in the 3 spots that have blue dots on them.

Cut 4 pieces of patterned paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2. Round the corners and attach.

Turn file folder over. Cut 3 pieces of patterned paper 4 1/4 x 5 1/2, and one piece 3 1/2 x 5 1/2. Round the corners and attach.

Take scrap paper that is left over and cover the piece of file folder you set aside earlier. Then cut it in half and use them for inserts on the side pockets. You can punch holes and add ribbon to make it easier to pull the tabs out.

For the pocket in the middle of the book take 2 pieces of scrap cardstock 4 x 3, round the corners. Then attach them together to make them thicker. Punch a hole to tie your ribbon through and add it to the pocket.

Add photos,embellishments and a title to suit your theme.

Your done. Here is one more look at the finished product.

Mini Circle Album

I finally had a chance to work with one of the 4 inch circle mini albums from Jenni Bowlin. I made this for a friend, so I didn't do a lot of embellishing. She likes things simple and I tried to keep it that way. I removed 4 of the lined papers from the album and added blue cardstock circles that I cut on the Cricut. Then I used a white pen to add different designs to each blue page. The lined pages will work great for journaling, but I will leave that part for her to fill in.

Playing with paint

We had a techniques class last Saturday called playing with paint. We wanted to show some fun ways to include paint on your pages and customize your colors.

This is the layout I created as a sample for the class.Here's how to do it:

Start with a white piece of cardstock, non-stick craft mat, paint (whatever colors you chose), and a brayer. Tear the white piece of cardstock to about a 9x9 size. Put a few drops of each color on that piece.

Use your brayer to roll the paint up and down on your page.Then add a few more drops of paint and roll across the the page from side to side. Then set the wet cardstock aside to dry.Next you will need some bubble wrap, double sided tape, scissors, and a brayer. Measure the width of your brayer and cut the bubble wrap to fit. Put a couple small pieces of double sided tape on the roller, wrap the bubble wrap and cut away the extra so it is not over lapping.Put the paint color of your choice(I used white) on a scrap piece of paper or craft mat and roll the brayer in the paint.As you roll across your page you can see it adding a textured look.Then take it across the painted piece of cardstock you started with, to bring the layout together.Next take a scrap piece of cardstock, curl it around a pencil and release it. That wll give you a spiral shape to dip in the paint and stamp on your page. A few other things we did with the paint, but I do not have photos of are:

Edge the pictures in white paint.

Use a scrap piece of cardstock, dip the edge in paint and create our journaling lines.

Dip a brush in the paint and flick it off across the title(a tooth brush works great for this also).

Have fun creating with paint. I can't wait to see some more pages.

Sister mini-album

Schedule a private class for your group of friends.

This sisters mini-album was designed for one group.

Vicki invited her sisters to come to the shop after closing on Saturday to make this mini-album.

They all agreed to let us show their pictures and finished works on the blog. Thank you ladies!

Free Crop Time

Joan B. and Teri W. stopped in the store today to enjoy some of our free crop time. I have heard some people mention that they thought free crop time was only on the days it is listed on the calendar, but that is not the case.

Anytime there is not a class being taught in the workshop area it is available for anyone to crop or make cards, free of charge.

So the next time you want to spend an afternoon scrappin' with friends, come on in and use our workshop. We have many different tools available for you to use during that time.

Just finished these two cards for the Stamp of the Month class on Saturday. We'll work with embossing, shimmerz, & glitter pen with these silhouette stamps.

I have had customers ask what they are supposed to do with their passports when they get them back. So, I created this layout today to show how to use it as an embellishment on a page. I selected 9 of my shop hop photos and attached them to a mat. Then made sure I left a pocket area to include the passport when I attached the mat to the background piece. I cut some of the flowers off of the lei and used them for embellishments. Then I inked my chipboard letters to fit my color theme.

I can't wait to see some other layouts created from this years shop hop event.

Shop Hop Fun

Some of you know I was on vacation last week. We got back a little early so I decided to join in the Shop Hop fun with some friends. I know I don't get to enter for any of the prizes, but I still had a blast. It was a busy day but we made it to 9 of the 10 stores all on Friday. The Paper Chase in Princeton is the only store we didn't stop at even though we all 3 live in Princeton. It's a block and a half away from the beauty shop I work in, so that stop will be tomorrow during lunch.

We had so much fun, just shopping with each other and seeing the different styles each store had. If you didn't get to join in the fun I hope you can next year. I'm already looking forward to that hop.

Filling In, Shop Hoppin', & New Kit

Hi girls! Lisa Wilson here! The "sisters" are on vacation-not together-and have left me in charge of the store! How cool is that? Besides that, they left me with the password to The Scrapbook Tree's blog. Very trusting, don't you think? So...I'm in charge and I have the blog password so I thought I would add a post and let you know what is happening here.

We've been Shop Hoppin' since Saturday and I have to tell you, Scrapbookers are such nice people. I have met some of the friendliest ladies and all of them have been very patient with me while I try to figure out Ladonna's system for naming products. (That's a whole other blog post!) We have a great make-n-take, chocolate chip cookies and bottles of water, a name tag creating station, and all Shop Hoppers get 20% off their purchases and have a chance to register for some great prizes. I am so hoping I can work in at least a day to do some hopping myself!

And since I am the one that is posting this, I just had to show you the latest Shabby Pink kit at The Scrapbook Tree. How about that? I manage to get a picture of Delilah posted wherever I am! Extra uses for alcohol inks

This page layout and both cards were color-customized with alcohol inks.

We used them on glitter paper, acrylic sheets, a Heidi Swapp ghost flower, pearls, and rhinestones.

With blending solution in the H2O pen, just paint the inks on the glittered paper wherever you'd like and make your glittered letters any color you choose. We cut these letters out of one solid sheet of 12x12 silver glitter paper.

After you put the alcohol ink drops on the acrylic sheet, blow across them with compressed air to get the splattered effect.

You can paint white pearls any color you have available. It works really well and doesn't wipe off.

Blend tones together or choose one solid color.

Page layout with a tag

We are making cards with these distressed tags for the Shop Hop make 'n' take. I wanted to use one on a page layout though. I started with the basic 9 square layout. I've used this design before, but it had been a while. First I just moved them around until I got the arrangement I liked.

I love the Graphic 45 papers and have been wanting to work with them for a while.

After adherring them to the cardstock, I started putting the "extras" in place.

I used a Prima stamp on plain chipboard letters, because I was going for a masculine look.

But when I put them on the paper, they blended in too much.

Sorry about the blurry photo, but you get the idea.

So, I ended up running a line of ivory paint around the edges of each letter to make themstand out better.

I cut out leaves from this flocked paper.

I stapled the sheer house shape on each side of the chimney. I had dry embossed this sheer piece with a Cuttlebug Embossing folder, then inked it with brown Stazon.

After I had attached my top chipboard letters, I decided they were too bright and colored them with chalk ink and a Dove blender pen.

I put the tag in the top corner. (You have to wait to find out the details on that one).

Journaling Class with Joanna Campbell Slan

It was so nice to meet Joanna Campbell Slan today. She had a lot of great ideas and journaling suggestions. I knew I could improve the journaling on my layouts, but I didn't expect to get so many ideas for pages that I should include in my scrapbooks. Maybe you'll see a few of them here soon.

She is the author of the scrapbooking murder mysteries Paper Scissors Death, and the newest release Cut Crop and Die as well as several non-fiction ones about scrapbooking.

Another quick 12x12 layout

I have had this photo for a while and I really like it, but had yet to include it in a layout. Then, I was looking at this Waterberry paper in the shop from KaiserCraft and decided that was what I was going to work with today. I started with a sketch from a book, two papers from the line and one sheet of Bazzill cardstock.

Working from a sketch eliminates the decisions about what to include and how to turn everything. Instead of spending two hours on a layout I can finish one in 15-20 minutes.

I cut out around the edges of the design because I preferred a solid background, then positioned the two main blocks and the photo.
Since most of the background wouldn't show, I cut out the center to use in the design of the layout. I do this a lot to stretch my paper and sometimes to get to use both sides of a double sided paper. If you look at the back of many of my layouts, you will often see pieces cut out.

I cut and inked the edges of the strips I had chosen.

Then adherred them and the flowers to the page and pulled out an older sticker alphabet that I had for the title and used a white pen for the writing.

Video Games Layout

Gotta' love those quick and easy layouts. Here is one that only took about 10 minutes to create and it's a great layout to use scraps on. I started with a 12x12 piece of Bazzill Kraft cardstock. I used Fired Brick Distress Ink and the inking tool by Ranger, to give a little color to the edges. I used my ranger craft mat and pulled the inking tool in circular motion onto the cardstock.

Then I used my black journaling pen to add some lines around the edges.

I cut eight 2.5x2.5 inch squares out of 3 different scrap papers. Then I attached them to my base cardstock.

Then I cut my matting piece of cardstock 8x8 and attached it overlapping the smaller squares. I used my journaling pen to draw the black lines around the edges of that piece also.

Slightly angle the photos to fit inside the matting and attach them.

I used some of this beautiful Maya Road sheer ribbon as an accent. I

wrapped it around the sides and taped it in place on the back. Since my title will be overlapping the ribbon on the front, it will help hold it in place.
I used Woodland Whimsy alphabet stickers from Sassafras Lass as my main title and a Maya Road sheer and Making Memories Mini Alphas to complete the title.

The paper scraps I pulled at the beginning were from Sassafrass Lass, I found these cardstock stickers to go with them. They work great for additional accents.

I left one of the stickers on the base and cut it out, so I could use pop dots to give the page more dimension. Then I added a couple of buttons and I'm finished.

Patriotic page layout with Moxxie Liberty paper

This was a quick and easy 9-photo layout using only paper and photos, with no additional embellishments.

First, I printed my photos in wallet size since I wanted to use so many on this one layout. Then mounted them all together in one block. This make it easy to move them all around at the same time. It also gives me more options when copying great 1-photo layouts. I group them together and treat them as one.

I laid my strips and pieces out the way that I wanted for the background. I like to use this technique when I am in a hurry. It's great for using up my scraps or for showing both sides of the double-sided coordinating paper.

Attached the strips and trimmed off the pieces that hung over the sides.

Then cut out the accents that I had saved back for my "embellishments". I chose one word and a couple of little strips with stars and stripes. Then added the pertinent info to the journaling block.

Quick and Easy Technique

Today I'm going to show you a quick and easy technique to use on any page or card. Below is a sample where I used it on a card for Father's Day.

Start with the paper of your choice. Flip it over so you are looking at the back. If you use a zero centering ruler you can line it all the way against the edge and use the holes in your ruler as your guide. If you are using a regular ruler, space them 1/2 inch apart and 1/2 inch in from the edge.

Punch holes over your marked area.Use a craft knife to cut 2 parallel slits from each hole to the edge of the paper.

When your done cutting the slits across, it should look like this.

Turn it back over to show the front side. You can use it just like that or ink across the page to add that aged look.

Your quick and easy handmade technique is finished.

Prima Paintables

I was working with Prima Paintables on Wednesday. Here are a couple of layouts I created. On the first one I used water color pencils, a blending pen, crackle accents, markers, ink, chipboard letters, and Prima flowers.

On the second paintable I used acrylic paint, Shimmerz paints, and watercolor pencils.

I wanted to be able to show the difference in using the paintable by itself and with additional embellishments.

Christmas mini-album: This was a hard book for me to do. Christmas was my dad's favorite holiday and he always made sure we had a good Christmas. I kept finding pictures of him at Christmas, so I knew what I had to do. I made this book for my Mom for Christmas this past year.

How long have you been scrap-booking? 1998 - I scrapped a little before and after Mackenzie was born. Then I started again in 2007 when Dad got sick and Mom and I went to The Scrapbook Tree.

How do you go about designing a layout? I pick my paper, then pictures, and then embellishments. Every once in a while I start with a picture.

Kokuyo adhesive is fixed and instock

Okay, I know a bad batch of the Dot-N-Roll refill adhesive made by Kokuyo went through a while back. I wanted to make sure everyone knows they have fixed the problem. We have now restocked our favorite brand of adhesive.
A few of our customers had some problems with the Tape-N-Roll refills as well. They said we were the only store to have that problem, however they still replaced them with new rolls.

I have been using them since they came in and have not had anymore trouble with either. I feel totally comfortable selling them again.

Chatterbox Botanico 12x12 layout

Gina created this beautiful page at the NSD crop. Admittedly, she started with some great photos, then used these Botanica papers from Chatterbox.

Distress crackle paint around the edges and she distressed the edges of the paper for her layers.

2 page layout with Melissa Frances papers

It started with this shimmery flower that LaDonna made the other day. (We have these available in the store for just $1.79). I knew I wanted to use it on a layout, so I started looking for coordinating paper, then appropriate photos. It doesn't always start with the photos for me.

I knew I was going for a distressed look on these pages,

so I started by sanding the edges of the photos.

After double matting the photo, I used the

Heidi Swapp edge distressor to grunge up the matting.

Then inked the edges with the Colorbox chalk ink in Chestnut Roan.

I peeled the backing off the felt fusion strip and used two pieces in the corner, slightly overlapping the photo.

I ran some burgandy Distressed Stickles along the torn edge of the matting background.

Then added this My Mind'e Eye rub-on to the Tim Holtz journaling ticket that was just the right size.
I like the large chipboard letters and decided to cover them with coordinating paper.

I sprayed the back of the paper for strong, even coverage.
Adhered the paper to the back of the chipboard letters

and trimmed then filed around the edges.

Sometimes I ink around the edges of covered chipboard, but with the small center openings, I decided to use a tombow marker. I strongly recommend holding the marker behind the letter and running the tip around the edges from the back side. That way when the pen slips, (and it occasionally will) you will only leave a mark on the back of the letter.

The rest of the letters were cut with the Cricut from coordinating paper.

The papers were too similar and the letters really faded into the background.

So, I traced around them with our favorite white pen (Signo).

I attached the clear butterflies with brads and added self adhesive pearls to their wings.

Used a Cuttlebug embossing folder on the tickets and added

my favorite Maya Road sequined ribbon.

After all of that I took the photo and realized that the letters still didn't show up enough.

I got out the green glaze pen and colored in each letter.

See how the design of the paper still shows through the green.

To finish the layout dark green tags from the Melissa Frances line were added and a couple of those butterfly rubons from Chatterbox.

Looking back at the steps, it kind of seems like a lot for just one layout, but I wasn't in any kind of hurry, just having fun along the way.

More Beautiful Flowers

I took a few hours the other night to make some more specialty flowers. I always have so much fun putting these together. I used several different Lumin Arte shimmer mist colors to create unique flowers.I even customized some glitter brads to complete the look.

Very important tip to remember!!! You should wear gloves if you intend on spraying a brad with several coats of mist while holding it in your hand. Don't think it will wash right off, even if you wash your hands immediately. I was stained like this for 2 days.

Tips for decorating your mini purse albums

Everyone who attended our NSD Crop May 2nd received a Bare Elements Mini Purse Album in their goody bag. I know I posted a picture of how I decorated the outside, but several people asked to see the inside also. So I thought I would post pictures of each page and pass along a few tips to remember when decorating your own.

You will need to select the paper line of your choice and 3 Bazzill cardstock colors to match that line. I used the Airy Fairy line from KaiserCraft.

I started by using shimmer mist and spayed each page. I used a Paper towel to spread an even coat across the whole page, including the handle. You can also use a foam make-up sponge.

While the mist was drying I used my Cricut Expressions to cut four 5 inch circles out of each Bazzill color cardstock and four 5 inch circles out of one patterned paper. Then cut the bottom of the circle off (1 inch from the edge) for a perfect fit with a slight border of the misted background showing. For the front and back cover I also cut two 4 inch circles out of patterned paper to layer on top of the CS after I attached the ribbon all the way around.

On the inside I started with two of the patterned papers. Remember to leave a border all the way around the edge. If you place your paper all the way in the crease, by the time you are finished with every page your album will barely close. You will also want to remember to place your photos towards the handles to avoid to much thickness in the folds.
On the next page I used two of the Bazzill cardstock circles. To avoid thickness in the album I used mostly pens and stamping for my embellishments. Rub-ons would work great also.On the next page I used another Bazzill cardstock color. Notice I used some Magic Mesh behind a few of the photos, but always placed it toward the outside edge of the album.

On these pages I repeated the last Bazzill color I used.Then for these pages I went back to the darker Bazzill cardstock.
I ended the album with patterned paper. It's hard to tell in this photo, but I used a glitter pen to accent the design in the paper.
I know I told you to select 3 Bazzill colors and you only see two colors on my album. I used two sheets of the same color. Later I thought it would have looked better with a different background color on the front and back covers.

Pink Paislee Pop Fashion page layout

I was eager to use that Pop Fashion paper from Pink Paislee, but with three boys I don't get to use much pink. Then, I remembered these pictures that have just been waiting for some pink.

I cut the small frames out of the transparency because the photos I was working with did not fit.

I adherred it to the paper at an angle then flipped it over and trimmed off the excess.

I love those silvery metallic rub-ons, so I started adding them. They are not kidding when they call these press-ons. Light rubbing is all that is needed and they tranfer easily.

In this close-up you can see how silvery the clear overlay is that I trimmed down. It was a full 12x12 sheet. I'll probably use the rest on the page that will go across from this one in my album.

I took a bright pink felt flower and added stickles for dimension.
I punched out a scalloped circle from the remains of pink pink cardstock and ran it through the Sizzix big Shot in the Cuttlebug embossing folder, then inked it to layer under the felt flower.

I used the Cricut to cut out this butterfly accent from the Storybook cartridge.

Then curled the wings around a Tombow Marker and added small self adhesive pearls to the center of the butterfly.

The butterfly doesn't show up very well in the photo of the layout, but it's there.

12x12 page layout

On Tuesday nights I like to scrap since the shop is open until 8pm. I got the chance to use the Clear Prima Paintable overlay that Carole painted for me at the crop the other day.

I love this diecut paper from Making Memories. This was not what I had originally planned to do with this paper, but you know how that goes sometimes once you start on a project. I pulled out scraps from the pink and green files to put behind the openings, added the Prima flowers and used a slickwriter to journal on the clear overlay.

Prima 6x6 clear paintables and alcohol inks

For our NSD make-n-take project, we used Prima 6x6 Clear Paintables. We painted them with alcohol inks, a blender pen, and white acrylic paint.

Below is a page layout I used one on.

For those of you that couldn't attend the event, I've included step by step directions .

The clear Paintables come on a 12x12 sheet with 4 different patterns that can be cut into 6x6 squares.

We used a clear acrylic sheet as our ink pallet. You can use any non-porous surface. Select the alcohol ink colors you would like to use and add a drop or 2 of each color in different spots.

Fill an H2O brush with alcohol blending solution. (Once you use blending solution in the brush you cannot use it as a water brush, so make sure you mark it to know the difference.)

Start by placing your 6x6 paintable on top of a white piece of scrap paper. This will allow you to see what the colors will look like on your page.

The alcohol ink will dry very fast, but the solution in the brush will reactivate it. Use the brush to pick up the color you want and begin painting.

Another great thing to remember is you can wipe the brush clean and go over any spots you want to clean up, it will easily remove the ink.

After you finish painting the front, turn your paintable over so you are looking at the back side. Use white acrylic paint to cover all of your colored areas. Make sure you stay inside the lines, otherwise you will see white paint on the front side.

Melanie and I were so busy running around on Saturday that Carol E. painted this one for Melanie to use on her page. Didn't it turn out great?

In this layout, Nancy used one of the clear paintables and she didn't paint white acrylic on the back, that way the frame was translucent so that you can still the design of the background paper through the painted image.

When I got to work this morning I found the photos my sister (Cynthia) took at the NSD crop. I will add the pics from the Make and Take soon.She had a photo of Blossom with our mom on her camera.
I wanted to mention a BIG Thank You to Heather (our sister-n-law). She helped all day Friday at the store getting ready for the event. Then stayed Saturday after cropping all day to help clean up.

As you can see we had a special helper drawing some of tickets for the raffle prizes. My daughter Lillian. We had drawings every hour for door prizes, but these 10 drawings were for the raffle items that were donated by each vendor (2 items per vendor).

National Scrapbooking Day 2009

It's National Scrapbooking day!!! We held a NSD crop at Zander's Ice Cream shop again this year. We had lots of fun croppin' with friends. There were classes, make-n-takes, prizes, raffles and more.

I would like to say Thank You to my sisters, Cynthia and Blossom for helping out with the crop. Since Melanie and I were running back and forth between the crop and our store 2 doors down, we needed the extra hands. Blossom ran the shop for us (sorry, no photo of her) and Cynthia helped at the crop.
Here Cynthia is setting up the food table. Another special Thank You to David B. for making the amazing cupcakes that everyone loved. (Recipe for cupcakes in previous entry.)We wanted to make this event the best that we can, so we invited additional vendors. Below are photos of the booths they set up.

Little Purse Mini Album

This mini purse album is from Creative Imaginations Bare Elements line. I misted the whole album with Lumin Arte Shimmer Mists. Then I used some of the Airy Fairy paper line from KaiserCraft to cover the front and back. I found the best way to cover the pages with paper is to cut out 5 inch circles, then cut the bottom of the circle off for a perfect fit with a slight border of the misted background showing. The font is from the Storybook Cricut cartridge and the wooden butterfly is from KaiserCraft.

Terre Haute Crop for the Cure

We had a lot of fun at the Terre Haute Crop for the Cure. I would like to thank Kae S. for inviting us to this event. There were so many people I had to take 3 different photos to show you the whole view. (sorry the pictures are so pixely, not sure what happened there) I would also like to thank Robin G. for helping at our booth all day.

Crop for the Cure set up time

We are excited to join in the fun at the Terre Haute Crop for the Cure. We finally have our booth set up and we are ready for tomorrow. I can't wait for it all to begin.

We drove a car and a SUV full of stuff up for the event. Yes, my husband even got to stay and help set up. I hope this is how he wanted to spend his Friday night.

We also set up a Make-N-Take table where scrappers can create a chipboard journaling tag.

Last night at the crop I took these photos of workspaces. What gets your creativity flowing?

Angel's crop space (off to the right) was nice and neat

because she was working on digital layouts.
Shelli's was too, for an entirely different reason. She is the most organized cropper I have seen. I keep trying to convince her to teach a class on scrapbook organizing tips.
That's a class I could use.

Make Your Own Accents

Here's a technique you can do at home. We will be using a hot glue gun to get creative. With a few easy steps you can customize your colors to fit the project your making. .In the layout below you can see a side border and my flower centers were created this way.

Start with a hot glue gun and a craft or Splat mat (heat resistant). Make drops of glue, any size you need, and let them dry. Don't worry about the strings of glue, you can tear them off after the glue dries.Next, put a couple of dried glue dots in a baggie and add a few drops of alcohol ink (you waste less if you work in the corner of the bag). Shimmerz paints also work great to paint these little droplets.

When your ready to attach them you can either use Zots or reactivate the hot glue by touching the back of your dot with the metal tip of your glue gun (if you choose this one, work fast before the glue dries again.)

Below you can see I used the same technique on a card that I made.

10 Minute Layout

Here is a simple layout that only took about 10 minutes. It is hard to read the title in this photo, but I wanted to be able to show the shimmer on the paper.

1. I started with a sheet of Bazzill Kraft paper. Then I sprayed diagonally across the paper using Pink Grapefruit Mist from Lumin Arte (any shimmer mist brand will work).

2. Then I cut out two swirl designs using a Cricut machine and masked off the upper right corner using repositionable adhesive.

3. Along the top right corner of my paper I used Sky Blue Mist from Lumin Arte across the masked area. After I was done spraying I removed the masks.

4. I set my paper aside and selected a butterfly from my Grungeboard set and used the Pink Grapefruit Mist on it also. I sprayed several coats then used a paper towel to absorb the extra that puddled on top. 5. Then I used Shimmerz Bubble Gum paint to enhance the edges, but you can use ink or markers also.

6. I selected a pale pink cardstock to mat both of my photos. My main focus photo was 7x5 and my accent photo was 3x4. I rounded the corners on my pictures and mats.

7. After I positioned the large photo on my page I ran a strip of Maya Road Cream Vintage Sequin Edging across the bottom of it. Then overlapped my smaller photo on the lower right corner and my butterfly on the lower left corner.

8. I used the Cricut to cut my title out of the same pink color I used to mat my photos.. Then I traced a line down the center of each letter using dark pink ink to enhance them.

Join us for one of our evening crops we hold twice a month. Have fun with a group of croppers and get a few pages done along the way. The Great Impressions Stamp of the Month card class is offered twice each month. Each participant makes 2 different cards for just $5, plus they receive 50% off the stamp of the month and 20% off all other stamps and supplies used in the class. They also take home the photo of the 6-card display board with instructions for making those 6 cards as well as instructions for the 2 cards made in class.
